Bedbound and remaining mostly horizontal leaves a gap for anxiety. This week so far has been pretty freakish regarding matters irrelevant to me, cough cough Banshees, so despite being unable to reach beyond my home-ground, sleep-deprivation and stress keeps me company. Though this is not entirely true — ladybirds, bumblebees, hoverflies, and aphids have been keeping me company.

Hoverflies are my newest companion this year. The newfound fondness for these cute buzzy, drone-like creatures are ever growing. It’s difficult to see how anyone could not come to like them. The skills of defence and offence are necessary for every creature on earth for its survival and well-being though for some blown out of proportion reasons, us giants fear bees too much. The exception being allergy and alike. If one is concerned with being stung or see even bumblebees as threat, your new best friends are hoverflies! They don’t bite, they don’t sting, instead they like to lick. They look a little like bees, they pollinate, they hover like a drone, they are curious and inquisitive, their larvae are voracious eaters of aphids. What’s not to like about them? Plus to much gratitude, there have been little bunches of them coming to visit my plants on daily basis. I feel awful when they are disrupted when I water the plants. All I can do is make it quick, make myself appear harmless, and beg them to stay.

Bumblebees are golden retrievers of the bee world. What more can I say?
